El Camino del Norte – The Northern Way, begins in San Sebastian and finishes in Santiago de Compostela.
The route follows the North coast of Spain, through the Basque Country, Cantabria, Asturias and finally the Galicia region where you reach the town of Santiago de Compostela.
This route can be walked continuously from San Sebastian to Santiago de Compostela, or in one (or more) of the 5 stages we offer. This is the full version taking 36 nights. It is possible to shorten some sections using transfers and add in extra nights or rest days wherever you would like.
El Camino del Norte is a very hilly and sometimes mountainous walk with impressive panoramas such as the Picos de Europa in Asturias which you can see on your left as you walk along the cliffs of the coast. You will find many opportunities along the route to relax on small solitary beaches and swim in the clear turquoise water.
For nature lovers the Camino del Norte is a fantastic choice; you will traverse forests and green landscapes along the route. You should be aware however that this walk represents a greater physical challenge than The Camino Frances, due to the constant climbs and descents and the humid Atlantic weather which makes rain quite likely even in the summer months.
