This three centre walking holiday starts in the unspoilt village of Querenca and takes you through totally unspoilt countryside where there are new vistas around every corner to the village of Alte, considered by many as the village most typical of the Algarve.

Villages nestling between hills. Walls of whitewashed stone flashing in the sun. The lush foliage of almond, fig, carob and pomegranate trees, the rust coloured trunks of the stripped cork trees and the thousands of flowers that grow wild every spring, this is the true heart of the Algarve. This three centre walking holiday starts in the unspoilt village of Querenca and takes you through totally unspoilt countryside where there are new vistas around every corner to the village of Alte, considered by many as the village most typical of the Algarve. More magnificent countryside before continuing your walk westwards through orange and citrus groves to the historic town of Silves, once the Moorish capital of the Algarve.

October to March – £520.00. April, May, June, September – £610.00 per person. Single supplement: £125.00.

Departure Dates:

This independent holiday is available for 2 or more people throughout the year (except July and August, which are too hot to walk).

Day 1:

Transfer from arrival point in the Algarve to historic village of Querenca for dinner and overnight.

 

Day 2:

A walk through the countryrside and along the Almarjo Valley, quite unspoiled and covered in cork woods. 10 miles/16 kms. Overnight Querenca.

 

Day 3:

A shorter walk that leads through the river valley to Fonte de Benemola, a protected area full of many birds and unusual plants. 16 kms/10 miles. Overnight Querenca.

 

Day 4:

Transfer and then follow in the footsteps of the Moors through unspoilt countryside and along the protected limestone escarpment of Rocha da Pena to Alte village. 18 kms/11 miles. Overnight Alte.

 

Day 5:

A circular walk from your hotel through orange groves and then climbing gently to the Cumeada Ridge, offering spectacular views.  13 kms /8 miles. Overnight Alte.

 

Day 6:

Transfer to trailhead. Walk along ridges and past prehistoric landmarks and through orchards full of oranges, lemons and avocados, to arrive at your accommodation outside Silves. 16 kms/10 miles. Overnight 5 kms outside Silves.

 

Day 7:

Walk along the levada to Silves town – wander around this pretty town and then walk back to your accommodation along quiet country lanes and through the orange orchards for which the area is famous. 15 kms/9.7 miles. Overnight outside Silves.

 

Day 8:

End of holiday after breakfast. Transfer back to airport.
