THE RHEINSTEIG 2010 - The route on the banks and vineyards of the River RhineThe Rheinsteig trail runs along the right bank of the river Rhine between Bonn, Koblenz and Wiesbaden leading to forests, vineyards and spectacular views. This exceptionally well sign-posted and closely networked trail offers the opportunity to explore the landscape and culture of Germany in all its comparatively undiscovered glory. The whole trail is offered as a self-guided holiday divided into three week-long sections, with a fourth possibility that acts as a Rheinsteig highlights. It can easily be reached by train, boat and car and is near several airports.

DIFFICULTYModerate. You must be able to walk the distances mentioned and deal with a significant amount of hills and cliffside paths. On most days the walk will take you up from the riverside to the path above. A head for heights is also essential.

8th day: depature from St. Goarshausen

1st day: arrival to St. Goarshausen and overnight
2nd day: St. Goarshausen – Kamp-Bornh. (20 km, 690 m height difference)

5th day: Koblenz – Bendorf (17 km, 400 m)
6th day: Bendorf – Rengsdorf (21 km, 570 m)
7th day: Rengsdorf – Leutesdorf (19 km, 440 m)
8th day: departure from Leutesdorf

6th day: Drachenfels - Heisterbach (14 km, 390 m)
7th day: Heisterbach - Bonn (16 km, 140 m)

7th day: Braubach – Koblenz (21 km, 740 m)
8th day: departure from Koblenz
This section is also possible in reverse from Koblenz to Rüdesheim
Silent forests, gorgeous views, castles, vineyards, rugged cliffs, good food.
GETTING THERE
Well served by train and boat. Nearest airports are Bonn-Cologne, or Frankfurt-am-Main.
WHAT TO TAKE
Sturdy walking boots and walking socks (with a change of socks inrucksack), rucksack/day pack, 1 x water bottle with 1 litre capacity,insect repellent, sun glasses, sun hat, sunblock/cream, compass, torch,first-aid kit, mobile phone, swimming costume and a fleece.
WHEN TO GO
Daily March to November. Late Spring or late Summer early Autumn are the most comfortable periods.

We recommend that you take out appropriate holiday insurance covering you against illness, injury, and loss or damage to luggage. This insurance should also cover the possibility of your having to cancel your holiday for any reason.
