ITINERARY | HIGHLIGHTS | WEATHER | ACCOMMODATION & ADDITIONAL INFO BELGIUM 2010 - The ArdennesThe TransardennaiseThis walk will introduce you to this beautiful part of Belgium, with its woodlands and rivers, and rolling hills and its specialities, whether it be Purnalet de La Roche (a drink made from sloes), Borquin sausage, trout from the Haute Lesse, Ardenne ham, or la Cuvée de la jonquille, a spiced beer. The itinerary takes you for 160 kms across the various valleys of the Ourthe, the Lhomme, the Lesse and the Semois.

2, 3, 7 or 8 nights
Day 1: Arrive at
La Roche in time for dinner.
Day 2: La Roche–en–Ardenne – Sprimont: 22.5 km. Take a gently descending path to Hives, La Vaux en Cens. Keep descending to cross the River Ourthe in the direction of Roumont.
Day 3: Sprimont – St-Hubert: 23 km.Climb towards Aviscourt, followed by a descent towards Lavacherie, a charming little village in the middle of the extensive Freyr forest. From Saint-Hubert transfer back to La Roche, or overnight in Saint-Hubert if doing the 8 nights version.
Days 4 to 7
Day 4: St-Hubert – Nassogne: 27 km. Magnificent walk throught the most beautiful woodlands of the Ardennes. After climbing the "Diglette", arrive Fourneau St Michel, then Nassogne, of which the patron saint is none other than Saint Monon, of brewery fame!
Day 5: Nassogne – Mirwart : 18 km.From now on the Transardennaise takes on a gentler character – fields and meadows are your companions as far as Mirwart, reached via Awenne.
Day 6: Mirwart – Daverdisse: 24 km. The path today twists and turns across the beautiful landscape formed by the valleys of the Marsau and the Hautre-Lesse, to the 'village of the book', Redu. Then you join the Vallée de la Lesse.
Day 7: Daverdisse – Mon Idée: 27 km Daverdisse-Paliseul: 21,5 km.A changing landscape, a mixture of woodland and glades. The along the Our to the hamlet of Beth and so to Paliseul.
Day 8: Mon Idée - Bouillon: 17 km Paliseul – Bouillon: 25.75 km In the area of Mogimont, traverse a superb beech forest. After Sensenruth, come to the River Semois to Bouillon, former capital of the Duchy. End of walking itinerary. Transfer back to La Roche at the end of the day OR next morning if booking a supplementary night at Bouillon.
Unexpected beauty of Belgian countryside. Excellent produce and food.
GETTING THERE
The best way is by train - services from Brussels to Marloie, followed by bus to La Roche
WHAT TO TAKE
Sturdy walking boots and walking socks (with a change of socks inrucksack), rucksack/day pack, swimming costume, 1 x water bottle with 1litre capacity, insect repellent, sun glasses, sun hat, sunblock/cream, compass, torch and a first-aid kit
