INFO Slovakia 2008HIGH TATRAS - A private guided walking holiday for experienced walkersThe High Tatra National Park is the largest and most important Natural
Reserve in Slovakia. With its challenging hikes and breathtaking views,
it rivals any mountain range in the world. Though compact, the peaks
and landscapes are monumental – with 35 valleys, over 90 lakes
and crashing waterfalls into impressive gorges. The Tatras are easily
accessed from Poprad, where we will be based for the duration of the
trip, with daily hikes taking us to beautiful landscapes, rugged peaks
and interesting sights. Start any day you like subject to availability
of guide and accommodation.

| ITINERARY |
Day 1: Arrival Krakow, Bratislava, Vienna, Budapest - transfer to Poprad for overnight
Day 2: Trip to Zelene pleso valley (Green Lake valley)
- (4-5 hrs) – 10km
A good trek to the Chata Pri Zelenom Plese (Chalet by the Green Lake;
altitude 1554m) in the valley of Zelene Pleso. The chalet is situated above
the lake, which has an incredible green hue, surrounded on three sides
by a dramatic rock amphitheatre peaking at over 1,000 metres. Walking with
beautiful views on the limestone Belianske Tatras.
Day 3: Mala Studena valley – (6-7 hrs) – 11km,
moderate
Trek to Teryho Chata (Tery’s Chalet) altitude 2015m, built in the
Mala Studena Dolina (Small Cold Valley) in 1899 above five Spish alpine
lakes that are surrounded by rocky peaks. Small Cold Valley is well-known
for its rich mining and poaching history.
Day 4: Trip to Spissky castle, Levoca old town (sightseeing)
We visit Spissky Castle, the largest medieval castle in the Central Europe.
The castle hill was populated as early as 5th century BC and is the greatest
archaeological and historical gem of Central Europe. Levoca has a beautiful
walled old town.
Day 5: Trip to Mengusovska valley – Velke Hincovo
lake
(6-7 hrs) - 14km, moderate
We will hike to Lake Velke Hincovo pleso (Great Hinc Lake) that is the
largest in area (20.08 ha) and the deepest lake in the High Tatras. It
is situated in the upper part of the valley Mengusovska dolina, at an altitude
of 1946 m.
Day 6: Trip to Slovak Paradise National Park – Klastorna

(4-5hrs through canyons) - moderate
Go to Slovensky Raj Mountains (Slovak Paradise). From there we will trek
through the gorge of the Hornad River and Klastorisko with beautiful waterfalls,
rock spires and caves. The force of the Hornad River shaped the terrain
that can be scaled only with the help of wooden and steel ladders mounted
on the cliffs.
Day 7: Trip to Mlynicka valley (4-5 hrs) - 12km, difficult
We will go from the town of Strbske pleso to Furkotske saddle, very close
to the top of Furkotsky stit (altitude 2045 m) that towers above the valley
(Furkotska dolina). We will pass Skok (Jump), a beautiful waterfall, and
glacial lakes, such as Kozie plesa (Goat lakes), Capie pleso (Billy lakes),
Okruhle pleso (Round lake) and others.
Day 8: Depart
