Switzerland

Luxury walking break in Hotel Bella Tola in the Val d'Anniviers - 2008

The beautiful Anniviers Valley is situated on the River Rhone's left bank in the middle of the French speaking Canton of Valais. The area's natural beauty ranges from the untamed River Rhone itself, to sunny hillsides with their vineyards and panoramas which include deep gorges and lofty snow-capped mountains.

The base for the week is the elegant Grand Hotel Bella Tola in the village of St. Luc. The hotel is a traditional one built in the 19th century with a yellow faç ade and blue shutters - its relatively plain exterior hiding the luxury and charm of the interior - and was the "historical hotel of Switzerland 2001". It is built on a terrace overlooking the magnificent Matterhorn and surrounding peaks, which contrast with the green pastures of the valley of the Anniviers. Enjoy the hospitality of the Buchs-Favre family in their elegant hotel, serving excellent food and home-made chocolate. In summer breakfast is served in the conservatory and for dinner you can choose between sophisticated French cuisine or enjoy traditional Swiss cooking in the cosy traditional wood panelled restaurant.
