CASTLES and MEDIEVAL VILLAGES OF ALSACE
On this walk, “the Balcony of medieval Alsace”, you walk constantly at an altitude of between 400 and 765 m. From the medieval village of Turckheim to the Obernaiarea, you visit the beautiful villages of Niedermorschwhir, Ammerschwir, Kaysersberg, Thannenkirch, Riquewhir, Ribeauvillé, Andlau, and Ottrot. At the summit of Mont Sainte Odile at 764m is perched an ancient monastery whilst you will see a succession of imposing castles at Hagueneck, Hohlandsburg, Haut Koenigsbourg, Haut Ribeaupierre, Ramstein and Ortembourg. All in all a tremendous route through an all too often overlooked part of France with a unique character.
