Italy - The Cinque Terre 2008

A self-guided walking holiday

The Cinque Terre (Five Lands), pronounced 'chinkway tare-ray', is a string of five fishing villages perched high on the Italian Riviera which until recently were linked by a mule track and accessible only by rail or water. An ancient system of footpaths is still the best way to visit these villages where the old customs of the Ligurian fishermen survive in an area along a steep, rugged coast. The breathtaking views of harbours far below the wild but hospitable coastline along with the medieval fortresses and plentiful vines and vibrant colours make this a memorable holiday. Our holiday is based in two places over the course of a week - Manarola (one of the five villages) and the delightful town of Sestri Levante. Staying in both will enable you to see all the best of one of the most magnificent coastlines in Europe, including the Gulf of Poets, the Cinque Terre themselves and Camogli and San Fruttuoso.

£535 per person (based on two people sharing) staying in guest house in the centre of Manarola (3 nights) and 4 nights in hotel in Sestri Levante (with swimming pool and close to beach). Single supplement on request.
