It is worth considering an extra day in order to fully explore this beautiful and fascinating town. The former Benedictine abbey was until the Revolution almost as influential as the papacy - the remains of the huge abbey, the old town with its medieval streets of Romanesque houses can absorb several hours. There is also the possibility of a short circular walk in the surrounding countryside, whilst a wine tasting in the old town is highly recommended.

Then the hamlet of Lancharre and the village of La Chapelle sous Brançion. Finally, the medieval perched village of Brancion, protected by its château. Overnight in 'chambre d'hôte' at Martailly or in an inn at Brançion.
Day 7 - Brançion to Tournus. You will come to the villages of Royer and Ozenay with their Romanesques churches and their vineyards. Arrive in Tournus, a Romanesque town famous for the magnificent abbey of St-Philibert). A different wine region and so a wine tasting in one of the town's cellars is to be recommended.
